Field & Sales Agronomist
Company: W.O. Zangger & Son, Inc., d/b/a Zangger Popcorn Hybrids
Position Type: Full-Time
Location: Ord, Nebraska, United States of America
About the RoleZangger Popcorn Hybrids is seeking a Field & Sales Agronomist to work directly with growers and customers in support of seed placement, crop performance, and commercial success.
This is a hands‑on, field‑oriented role that combines agronomic advising, in‑season field scouting, grower relationship management, and sales support with applied research and trial activities. While research is an important component of the role, it is conducted primarily in real‑world production settings and in service of commercial seed performance and grower outcomes. The Field & Sales Agronomist serves as a critical link between field data, grower experience and Zangger’s commercial strategy;
helping translate agronomic insight into practical solutions for growers, processors and international partners.
This role emphasizes field‑based, grower‑facing agronomy with regular time spent in production fields, providing practical recommendations on crop management, seed placement, fertility and field practices. The position blends applied agronomy in commercial settings with sales and customer support, including seed placement discussions, issue resolution and ongoing grower engagement. Applied research and on‑farm trial support are integral, with in‑season scouting, soil sampling and data collection used to inform hybrid performance, production practices and product improvement.
The role is best suited for candidates who enjoy balancing hands‑on fieldwork with data analysis, translating research insights into real‑world guidance, and working closely with growers, sales partners and production teams to support commercial and production outcomes.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Plant Science, or a closely related agronomic field required. Degrees primarily focused on business, marketing or sales alone are not sufficient unless paired with substantial agronomic field experience.
- 2+ years of hands‑on agronomic experience required, such as field agronomy, crop consulting, seed production support, research plots or grower support roles. Internships, seasonal field work and applied research experience are strongly valued.
- Demonstrated practical agronomic expertise, including crop development, field diagnostics, hybrid performance evaluation and in-season decision making in real production environments.
- Experience working directly with U.S. growers, with strong familiarity with Midwestern cropping systems, production practices and on‑farm realities.
- Ability to translate agronomic observations and data into clear, credible guidance for growers and internal teams.
- Comfortable supporting sales efforts and building customer relationships.
- Strong communication, organization and time management skills.
- Working knowledge of precision agriculture tools and standard computer applications.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel regularly within the territory; CDL preferred or willingness/ability to obtain.
- Compensation: Base salary of $60,000–$80,000, depending on experience and performance.
- Health, retirement and additional ancillary benefits, including a company vehicle and expense reimbursement.
- Relocation assistance available for qualified candidates.
- A collaborative, supportive team environment with opportunities for professional growth and advancement.
Zangger Popcorn Hybrids is an Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE), including disability and veteran status.
