Hospitalist-Advanced Practice Provider, Full-Time (Healthcare)
SummaryThe Advanced Practice Provider (APP) functions as a hospitalist provider in our Critical Access Hospital, delivering high-quality, patient-centered inpatient care across the adult population. Working collaboratively with physicians, surgeons, nursing staff, and ancillary departments, the APP provides autonomous and team-based care consistent with their scope of practice, clinical privileges, and hospital policies. The APP ensures safe, timely, and effective inpatient management in alignment with regulatory and rural health standards applicable to Critical Access Hospitals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Patient Care & Acute Care Management- Provide evidence-based inpatient medical care consistent with professional standards and Critical Access Hospital expectations for autonomous practice.
- Comply with Medical Staff Bylaws, hospital policies, and relevant federal and state regulations governing CAH inpatient care.
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including detailed histories, physical exams, diagnostic evaluations, and ongoing clinical reassessments.
- Admit patients to the hospital, develop care plans, and utilize standard order sets to promote consistent, high-quality management of common medical conditions.
- Manage acute and chronic medical conditions for hospitalized patients, coordinating care with physicians and consulting specialists.
- Participate in the peri-operative and post-operative care of surgical patients, including orthopedic, spine, urology, and general surgery cases.
- Respond promptly to urgent and emergent situations, initiating stabilization efforts within the APP scope of practice.
- Provide patient and family education regarding diagnosis, treatment options, and discharge or transition-of-care planning.
- Document all patient care activities accurately and thoroughly in the electronic health record.
- Perform other clinical duties as assigned and within scope.
- Participate in daily multidisciplinary rounds, care huddles, and coordinated care planning.
- Communicate effectively with attending physicians and care teams regarding patient status and treatment plans.
- Collaborate with ancillary services to ensure safe and timely discharge planning.
- Provide appropriate specialty, outpatient, or community referrals.
- Contribute to hospital committees and performance improvement initiatives.
- Support educational activities including staff training and in-service programs.
- Recognize and respond to facility emergencies per CAH protocols.
- Adhere to infection prevention standards, safety policies, and hazardous materials guidelines.
- Maintain compliance with CMS Critical Access Hospital Conditions of Participation.

Masters Degree in Advanced Practice Nursing or Physician Assistant from an accredited university
Competencies/Certifications Required- Current license from the State of Nebraska for APRN or PA.
- Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Certification.
- Current BLS certification.
- Current ACLS certification.
- Current ATLS certification.
