Position Summary

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) provides diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive healthcare services under the supervision of a physician. As a key healthcare team member, the NP/PA takes medical histories, examines and treats patients, orders and interprets laboratory tests and imaging, makes diagnoses, and prescribes medications. They also manage minor injuries, perform suturing, splinting, and casting, and provide medical screening exams in the Emergency Department.

Job Functions
  • Provide high‑quality, age‑appropriate healthcare services in an ambulatory setting, including the Emergency Room and Hospital.
  • Assess, diagnose, treat, and educate patients to ensure comprehensive care.
  • Maintain accurate and timely medical records and required documentation.
  • Coordinate patient care with specialists as needed.
  • Prepare and manage prescriptions under physician supervision.
  • Ensure patient confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Promote Heartland Family Medicine Rural Health Clinic within the community.
  • Educate patients and families on illness prevention and available healthcare resources.
  • Evaluate patient care processes and outcomes to enhance quality and cost‑effectiveness.
  • Participate in health education initiatives for individuals, families, and healthcare teams.
  • Maintain compliance with federal and state regulatory requirements, including infection control and safety protocols.
  • Engage in professional development activities, including educational programs and workshops.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Education and Experience
  • Minimum Bachelor of Science degree;
    Master’s of Science degree preferred.
  • Graduate of an AMA‑approved Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Minimum of two years of clinical experience preferred.
Certifications and Licenses
  • Nebraska PA or NP Certification, with ongoing recertification.
  • BLS and ACLS certification.
Skills and Abilities
  • Strong diagnostic and clinical skills.
  • Ability to assess, diagnose, and develop patient treatment plans.
  • Proficiency in interpreting lab results and imaging.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to provide patient education and counseling.
  • Knowledge of state and federal healthcare regulations.
  • Basic math skills for medical calculations and financial documentation.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a healthcare setting.
