The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as caregiver to the resident during the scheduled work period in long‑term care. Provides resident‑centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned residents under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). The NA delivers age‑appropriate care in accordance with the resident’s care plan and is accountable for infection prevention and control policies and personal protective equipment use.
Responsibilities include daily living activities such as bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, and vital sign monitoring, as well as assisting with meals, hydration, and range‑of‑motion exercises. The NA supports nursing staff with procedures, documents resident interactions and outcomes, communicates changes to the charge nurse, collects non‑invasive specimens, provides housekeeping and laundry services, encourages participation in wellness and recreational programs, and may participate in committees and task forces as needed.
- High school graduate or GED preferred (not required).
- Minimum age of 16.
- Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long‑term care preferred.
- Required Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification with the State Board of Nursing or state certified CNA within four months of the start date by enrolling in a training program or enrolling in an endorsement program.
- CNA training and certification required and provided by the facility.
- Complete yearly competency testing and maintain continuing education credits; a minimum of 12 hours of continuing education are required annually.
- State UAP registry certification, if applicable.
- Depending on responsibilities, may be classified as a Sanford Category II Driver requiring a valid driver’s license, vehicle report, and medical qualification per Sanford Driving Policy.
