Overview

The City Maintenance worker is responsible for ensuring the cleanliness, safety, and proper functioning of public spaces and infrastructure within the community. This role involves performing routine maintenance tasks, repairs, and general upkeep to support a safe and attractive environment for residents and visitors alike. The position offers an opportunity to contribute directly to the quality of life in the city through hands‑on work and community engagement.

Duties
  • Conduct routine inspections of streets, parks, public buildings, and other city facilities to identify maintenance needs.
  • Perform repairs on roads, sidewalks, streetlights, signage, and drainage systems as required.
  • Maintain landscaping including mowing lawns, trimming trees, planting flowers, and removing debris from public areas.
  • Operate maintenance equipment such as mowers, blowers, pressure washers, and small hand tools safely and effectively.
  • Respond promptly to emergency repair requests or safety hazards reported by residents or city staff.
  • Assist with snow removal during winter months by plowing and salting roadways and walkways.
  • Ensure all work areas are kept clean and organized following safety protocols.
  • Document completed work and report ongoing issues to supervisors for further action.
Experience
  • Prior experience in municipal maintenance, landscaping, or a related field is preferred but not required; on‑the‑job training will be provided.
  • Ability to operate basic maintenance tools and equipment safely is essential.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures related to public works or construction environments is a plus.
  • Strong physical stamina and ability to perform manual labor outdoors in various weather conditions are necessary.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills with a proactive approach to addressing maintenance issues.
  • Valid driver’s license is preferred; ability to operate city vehicles may be required depending on assignment. This position provides an essential service to the community by maintaining the city’s infrastructure and public spaces in a safe and attractive condition. Successful candidates will demonstrate reliability, teamwork, and a commitment to community service while working in a dynamic environment that values safety and quality workmanship.
