Seasonal Maintenance Worker Leader

Summary

Position located in a National Park Service Unit. This role is a working leader responsible for building and utility maintenance work, directing at least 3 employees with the highest level of work led at WG‑7.

• Passes on instructions received from the supervisor to other workers, demonstrates proper work method, sets the pace for the crew, ensures supplies, materials, equipment and tools are available when needed, checks work in progress, confirms compliance with supervisor’s instructions and timelines, and enforces safety and housekeeping rules.
• Constructs, alters, modifies or repairs a wide variety of features in buildings and other facilities; installs, modifies and repairs new and existing utility supply and disposal systems; performs painting duties with minimal oversight; lays out and plans masonry work; installs new roofs including flashing, gutters and accessories; and repairs defective electrical components by removing, replacing, tightening, splicing, soldering or insulating.

Agate Fossil Beds National Monument is located in northwest Nebraska, 25 miles south of Harrison along the Niobrara River. The monument features fossil quarries, a museum with Plains Indian artifacts, and offers extensive outdoor recreation. It lies 50 miles north of Scotts Bluff National Monument and the cities of Scottsbluff and Gering.

  Must wear a uniform in compliance with National Park Service uniform standards; a uniform allowance will be provided.

• Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, repair and related practices.
• Knowledge of materials and technical practices.
• Vehicle operation skills.

Minimum qualifications include demonstrated ability to organize assignments for subordinates, estimate materials and manpower, prepare work orders and reports, and train others in at least two of the following trades: carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, cement finishing or masonry. Inadequate experience in these areas will result in disqualification. Applicants must fully describe and document relevant experience in their resume. Volunteer experience, paid or unpaid, may be credited if it meets the job‑related factors.

Volunteer work through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) and similar organizations is credited toward qualifying experience.

Current and former federal individuals with priority under CTAP or ICTAP must be well‑qualified to receive consideration. Well‑qualified status requires meeting OPM qualification standards, selective placement factors, and, where applicable, special qualifying conditions and reasonable accommodation for physical fitness.

No substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.

Announcement may be used to fill additional positions if identical vacancies arise within 90 days of the referral certificate issue date. Temporary seasonal employees may maintain non‑competitive rehire eligibility only if total hours across NPS do not exceed 1,040 within a service year.
