Description of WorkThe U.S. Meat Animal Research Center ( USMARC ) is a 34,000-acre facility near Clay Center, NE. The work performed at USMARC supports research that is focused on solving high priority problems for the U.S. beef cattle, sheep, and swine industries.
ResponsibilitiesAs a Construction Tech I, you will:
- Assist Construction Supervisor with new construction, repair, and maintenance of existing facilities which includes remote buildings, livestock working facilities, livestock water systems and monitoring and maintaining of waste lift stations. This includes, but is not limited to, electrical, carpentry, plumbing, concrete and welding.
Position requires irregular hours, work in inclement weather, and work in livestock facilities. In the UNL system, this position is categorized as a Building Service Technician I.

MinimumRequired Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED plus one year of combined experience in any of the following construction trades such as electrical, carpentry, plumbing, concrete, welding, or similar work; equivalent education/experience considered.
- Knowledge and skills to provide support in one of multiple construction trade areas.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and meet University driver eligibility requirements.
The following qualifications are preferred, but not required:
- Experience and/or training in multiple construction trades.
- Machinery operations and maintenance skills.
- Experience working with and around livestock preferred.
$18.00/hr minimum
