The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) is seeking a dedicated and hardworking team player to join us in building and maintaining a convenient, safe, and innovative statewide transportation system.

Pay rate: $22.756 per hour.

• $1.00 per hour after 1 year of continuous service
• $1.00 per hour after 3 years of continuous service
• $1.00 per hour after 5 years of continuous service

• Perform highly skilled and complex diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of heavy‑duty trucks, road construction and maintenance equipment, medium and lightweight vehicles, and other motorized equipment.
• Fabricate and repair equipment and parts using a variety of welders, welding materials, and methods to adapt incompatible parts, replace unavailable parts, secure attachments, and repair damage.
• Calibrate systems on heavy‑duty vehicles and equipment that distribute various materials according to road and weather conditions to ensure safe and efficient operation.
• Inspect new equipment to meet specifications and set it up to be road‑ready.
• Evaluate equipment to identify adjustments needed for auxiliary attachments, equipment, and operating systems.
• Install, troubleshoot, repair, and replace mechanical, electrical, computer, and hydraulic system components to restore equipment to a safe and operational state.
• Maintain hydraulics systems; install and monitor electrical systems; repair steering, suspension, brake, drivetrain, fuel systems; overhaul or replace diesel and gasoline engines.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: Practical work experience performing automotive/diesel maintenance and repair, including use of computerized diagnostic instruments and equipment, or post‑high‑school vocational or technical coursework in automotive/diesel mechanics with instruction in computerized diagnostic equipment and automotive/diesel mechanical maintenance and repair practices.

Preferred Qualifications: Degree in Automotive Diesel Mechanics, experience repairing trucks or heavy equipment, welding and fabrication experience, basic computer skills, and the ability to obtain a Class A CDL within 90 days of hire through NDOT’s in‑house CDL training program.

Must be able to report to work outside scheduled hours for snow and other highway emergencies.
