The position will support one grade level through inclusion and pull‑out services to students and offers an exciting opportunity to grow and develop special education techniques and skills in a supportive environment.

Position PurposeUnder the general supervision of the Special Education Coordinator and School Principal, the LTS Special Education Liaison will maximize the learning experience of students with special needs in academics, interpersonal skills, and activities of daily living. Responsibilities include implementing district‑approved curriculum, documenting teaching and student progress, addressing individual student needs, and providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
Responsibilities- Conduct assessments, testing, and diagnostic examinations to identify learning issues and recommend corrective actions.
- Participate in team meetings and assist in developing Individual Educational Programs (IEPs) for students.
- Assist students and teaching staff in implementing IEPs and behavior management plans.
- Coordinate with administrators, teaching staff, and service providers to ascertain individual student abilities and needs.
- Serve as a liaison between home and school, guiding students toward personal growth, self‑understanding, and behavioral management.
- Stay current on educational developments by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings, and by maintaining professional relationships.
- Maintain accurate record‑keeping, provide student information and data to write progress reports.
- Encourage parental involvement and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
- Assist in the orientation and training of new teaching assistants as needed.
- Provide direct instruction across the curriculum, including accommodations and modifications for diverse student needs.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and central office administrators.
- Knowledge of Special Education principles, theories, testing methods, and proven strategies to maximize learning.
- Knowledge of differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and action plan formulation.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education.
- Ability to use computer network systems and software applications.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Ability to engage in self‑evaluation and reflect on professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.
- Wilson or Orton‑Gillingham Certification Highly Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree
- Massachusetts DESE certification in Moderate Disabilities
- Master’s Degree in Special Education
- Prior special education teaching experience

CompensationCompensation for substitutes is based on the duration of coverage: $22.40/hr – $43.23/hr.
