The Billing Manager oversees all billing, coding, and reimbursement functions for medical rehabilitation services to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant revenue capture. This role manages billing staff, monitors payer performance, resolves denials, and ensures compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer requirements specific to rehabilitation services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Billing & Revenue Cycle Management
    • Oversee daily billing operations for inpatient and/or outpatient rehabilitation services
    • Ensure accurate charge capture, claim submission, and timely follow‑up on unpaid claims
    • Monitor accounts receivable, aging, and cash collections
    • Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for billing efficiency and reimbursement
  • Coding & Compliance
    • Ensure proper use of CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10-CM, and modifier coding for rehab services
    • Oversee compliance with Medicare and Medicaid rehabilitation billing guidelines
    • Ensure documentation supports medical necessity and payer requirements
    • Stay current on regulatory and payer policy changes affecting rehab billing
  • Denials & Appeals Management
    • Oversee denial management processes and root‑cause analysis
    • Prepare and submit appeals for denied or underpaid claims
    • Collaborate with clinical and coding teams to prevent recurring denials
  • Team Leadership & Training
    • Supervise, train, and evaluate billing and collections staff
    • Develop workflows and standard operating procedures
    • Provide ongoing education on payer rules and billing best practices
  • Collaboration & Reporting
    • Work closely with therapists, physicians, coding staff, and facility leadership
    • Prepare regular reports on billing performance, denials, and reimbursement trends
    • Support audits, payer reviews, and compliance investigations
  • Systems & Process Improvement
    • Manage billing system configuration and payer setup
    • Identify opportunities to improve workflows, automation, and reimbursement accuracy
    • Ensure data integrity across EMR and billing platforms
Qualifications
  • Required
    • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience)
    • 5+ years of medical billing experience, with rehab or therapy services experience
    • Strong knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer billing rules
    • Experience managing billing staff and workflows
    • Proficiency with EMR and billing systems
  • Preferred
    • Certified Professional Biller (CPB), Certified Revenue Cycle Executive (CRCE), or similar credential
    • Experience with inpatient rehabilitation facilities (IRF), outpatient therapy, or SNF rehab billing
    • Familiarity with payer audits and compliance programs

Compensation

$100,000 to $120,000 annually
Compensation is based on a range of factors that include relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job‑related qualifications
