Swim Aide

Department: Aquatics

Location: Charles River YMCA

Compensation: $15.50 - $16.00 per hour

Position Type: Non-Exempt (Hourly)

Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director, this position assists certified YSL Aquatic Instructors during lessons and works only under the supervision of a YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist aquatics instructors during swim classes.
  • Be prepared for class. Have all equipment available and ready prior to swim class. Assist in putting away all equipment after swim classes.
  • Maintain a professional image and manner consistent with the YMCA mission and goals at all times.
  • Ensure a clean and safe pool environment at all times.
  • Engage in active listening with members in order to build relationships, understand each individual’s goals and interests and take the initiative to assist in the achievement of those goals.
  • Attend mandatory monthly in-service training. Attend mandatory twice per year association trainings.
  • May be required to work one on one with individual students during group classes.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • Swim Aide is for individuals 15 years of age to 15 years and 11 months of age.
  • No experience necessary.
Physical Demands
  • Physically and verbally able to interact with members and staff.
  • May be required to be in the pool for an extended period of time.
  • At times, able to lift up to 50 lbs.
Work Environment
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
  • Shifts vary, but may include early mornings, nights, and weekends.
