The Bindery Operator I operates basic finishing equipment and serves as a backup operator for at least one major finishing machine. The role requires adherence to manufacturing standards, product specifications, and safety protocols.
Job Responsibilities- Set up and operate finishing equipment according to manufacturing standards and production specifications.
- Make adjustments to rectify registration or cut‑off issues during machine operation.
- Assist machine operators during set‑up and perform required duties as requested.
- Perform basic bindery functions such as gathering, jogging, hand collating, and other tasks as required.
- Maintain the quality and quantity of finished product and follow all job checking procedures.
- Record time and materials for each job and enter daily information using the automated data collection system.
- Handle routine daily and monthly maintenance as required and work with Manufacturing Maintenance staff on the preventive maintenance program.
- Work either shift as needed, including overtime to meet production requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bindery Operator I – 6+ months experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Bindery or assembly experience desirable.
- High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED).
- Proficient use of a PC.
- Mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity for adjustments and maintenance.
- Ability to detect subtle color differences.
- Problem solving skills.
- Ability to follow written instructions.
- Detail oriented with focus on high quality.
Work is performed primarily in a manufacturing (industrial printing) environment and may involve exposure to noise hazards, high‑speed mechanical moving parts, chemical hazards, and hazards common to bindery equipment operation and the printing industry. The work may involve repetitive operation of industrial equipment for extended periods of time, frequent lifting of materials and equipment up to 50 lbs, and pushing/pulling of heavy materials.
Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hearing protection, eye protection, hand protection, and safety‑toe footwear is required.
