Position Overview
The City of Neenah (population 25,000) seeks an experienced, motivated professional to lead the progressive Recreation Division of the City Park and Recreation Department, whose mission is to “Create Community Through People Parks and Programs”. This position currently oversees the Neenah Pool, all aquatic programming, Riverside Players, and adult programming.
Key Responsibilities- Develop, implement, and evaluate recreation programs by researching trends, monitoring participation, and ensuring high-quality, safe activities.
- Coordinate programming and special events with internal staff, other City departments, schools, YMCA, sports groups, service organizations, and community partners.
- Oversee marketing efforts, including recreation guides, flyers, news releases, social media, website updates, and public presentations.
- Recruit, train, schedule, and evaluate recreation staff and volunteers; ensure adequate staffing during program hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Manage safety training and risk management practices within the Recreation Division.
- Respond to citizen inquiries, complaints, and concerns.
- Participate in employee evaluations, investigations, and disciplinary processes as needed.
- Monitor program supplies, equipment, and facility needs; ensure safe conditions for participants and staff.
- Develop, administer, and monitor the annual recreation budget; recommend fee adjustments, capital improvements, and manage capital assets.
- Research and pursue alternative revenue sources such as grants, donations, and fundraising opportunities.
- Prepare reports, agenda items, and presentations for commissions and council; attend occasional evening meetings.
- Stay current on industry trends through conferences, workshops, and professional development.
- Follow all department and City policies, procedures, and attendance expectations.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Park and Recreation Administration or equivalent degree – and
- 5 years of recreation agency experience – or
- A combination of education and experience equal substituting 2 years’ experience for education.
- 3 years progressively responsible supervisory experience
- Aquatic Facility Operator Certification within 12 months of hire
- CPR and First Aid certified
- Valid WI Driver License
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Parks and Recreation Professional
- Salary Range
: $71,760.00- $85,800.00 depending on experience.- Salary range reflects base to midpoint of the pay scale. Offers above midpoint require Council approval.
