Estimator Nelson We are seeking an experienced and commercially astute Estimator to take a leading role in the pre-construction phase of projects. This is a key position responsible for delivering accurate cost planning, managing tender processes, and working collaboratively with internal teams, clients, and the supply chain to ensure successful project outcomes.
Key Responsibilities Take financial lead during the pre-contract stage of construction projects Prepare detailed cost estimates including subcontractors, materials, labour, plant, and utilities Analyse drawings, specifications, and construction documents to produce accurate pricing Develop and manage pre-qualification and tender submissions Plan, organise, and schedule project work to meet budget and programme requirements Engage with the supply chain to ensure robust pricing and buildable solutions Ensure all tender documentation and budgets are submitted in line with deadlines Regularly report to senior management and maintain clear communication with clients Identify risks and develop contingency plans to manage cost and programme exposure Stay up to date with estimating software and industry best practices Collaborate with design teams to guide cost-effective design solutions Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, and stakeholders Support the seamless handover from estimating to delivery/contract teams Prepare subcontract enquiry packages and manage procurement activities Measure and procure packages including groundworks, masonry, joinery, and finishes Lead and participate in meetings with clients, consultants, and project teams Assess contractual risks and review amendments within project agreements Manage and maintain estimating systems, including Causeway software About You Proven background in Quantity Surveying / Estimating within construction Strong commercial awareness with the ability to meet tight deadlines Excellent knowledge of reading and interpreting drawings and specifications Confident communicator with strong written and presentation skills Highly organised with strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment Positive attitude, adaptable, and a strong team player Experience using Causeway Estimating software (desirable) Comfortable engaging with clients and stakeholders at all levels Willingness to travel for site visits and client meetings when required What's on Offer Opportunity to play a key strategic role in pre-construction delivery Collaborative, forward-thinking working environment Exposure to a variety of high-quality construction projects Career progression and professional development opportunities
