As a Process Safety Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, execution and successful implementation of process safety requirements for process operations. This role demands extensive experience in process safety, process engineering, and recognition of functional safety engineering application.

You can be based in Derby, Solihull or Rotherham as the role requires support across all 3 locations, you will be required to travel for around 10% of the working week.

What you will be doing:
  • Understand engineering project scope, specifications, and design criteria while driving a proactive PSM culture at our site(s).

  • Implement all aspects of process safety management, including compliance with applicable regulations, reviewing effectiveness of process hazard assessments, supporting PHAs, HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, SIL and other process safety modeling activities.

  • Complete reviews of scenarios and risk engineering to support design and implementation of PSM projects, including loss prevention, top risk, and leading PHA recommendations and other improvements.

  • Support the business with functional safety aspects/ (IEC 61508, ISO EN 61511 and ISAS
    84)

  • Lead, coordinate and participate in PHAs and willing to get trained to be a PHA facilitator.

  • Perform/participate in root cause analysis and implement process changes/control plans to drive continuous improvement.

  • Utilise our software platforms to manage changes and coordinate as required for site assistance.

  • Support identification of explosive atmospheres and the completion of hazardous area classifications.

Who we’re looking for:
  • Degree qualified in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Process Safety or a related discipline, or significant relevant experience gained within a chemical operating, manufacturing or pilot plant facility in lieu of a degree.

  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain accurate documentation and work effectively within a process-driven environment.

  • Strong working knowledge of the SEVESO III Directive and its key requirements, with an understanding of how these apply within a high-hazard chemical or manufacturing environment.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex process safety matters clearly and effectively through both written and verbal methods.

  • Confident in professionally raising awareness of Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements and non-compliance matters, with the ability to engage constructively with all levels of site personnel and influence positive safety behaviours.

  • A proactive and collaborative approach to process safety, with the ability to build effective relationships across engineering, operations, maintenance and wider site functions.

  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of process safety, regulatory compliance and operational discipline.
