Wildflower School requires a Seedlings teacher who is highly skilled in teaching in a multi-age learning environment with students in Kindergarten and Grade 1. The successful candidate will be committed to creating a classroom community grounded in safety, trust, respect, compassion, curiosity, and a strong sense of belonging. The teacher will recognize and respond to the diverse developmental, social-emotional, and learning needs of young children while fostering independence, confidence, and a love of learning.

Teachers interested in the position should practice pedagogy that is developmentally appropriate, trauma-informed, play-based, and focused on educating the whole child. The teacher will provide engaging opportunities for students to develop strong foundational skills in literacy, numeracy, communication, social-emotional learning, and physical development through purposeful play, exploration, inquiry, and hands-on experiences.

A strong commitment to working collaboratively with parents, teachers, support staff, and the greater school community is required. The teacher will design, implement, and assess engaging, thematic, and cross-curricular learning experiences that reflect the interests and developmental needs of young learners while supporting each child’s individual growth and progress.

• Proven ability to teach effectively in a multi-aged classroom
• Proven experience teaching in the early years
• Proven understanding of the proponents and rationale of multi-aged learning
• Proven ability to plan thematically and effectively integrate all curricular elements into a broad year-long theme
• Proven ability to design and implemented inquiry-based learning in all curricular areas.
• Proven success using a wide variety of authentic assessments strategies in all curricular areas
• Proven ability to manage and coordinate parent and community volunteers in the classroom
• Proven ability to plan, coordinated and integrate place-based learning opportunities
• Proven experience implementing restorative justice and compassionate communication with both children and parents
• Proven ability to work with parents to collaboratively design individualized home-schooling plans
• Demonstrated commitment to supporting and guiding parents in their 5.5 hour/week home-educator role.
• Proven understanding of and commitment to the tenets of Attachment Theory as it pertains to the teacher-student relation and the parent-child relationship

• Proven commitment to collaborative planning and team teaching
• Experience with UFLI reading program
• Excellent self-management and organizational skills
• Experience and deep commitment to planning and building a multi-aged classroom community

Salary Range; $68,589 - $114,833 per year, in accordance with the current SD8-Kootenay Lake / KLTF Collective Agreement. Placement on the salary grid is based on qualifications and years of teaching experience as evaluated by the BC Teacher Qualification Service (TQS).

Applicants must be certified in British Columbia with a Professional Teaching Certificate, or be eligible for certification by the start date of the assignment.
