Summary
As a Electrical or Mechanical Critical Shift Technician, responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical, mechanical, and associated critical infrastructure systems within a live data centre environment.

The role focuses on ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of power and cooling systems, including continuous monitoring, routine inspections, and performance analysis of building services infrastructure. This includes conducting planned maintenance, system testing, and operational rounds to ensure optimal performance and resilience of critical plant.

While some customer interaction is required within the data hall environment, the primary focus of the role is the operation and maintenance of mission-critical electrical and mechanical systems that support 24/7 facility uptime.

This position requires on-site working to support a 24/7/365 operational environment and is not suitable for remote or hybrid working.

Responsibilities

Apply technical knowledge across electrical and mechanical systems to support the operation of critical infrastructure

Operate, monitor, and maintain key plant systems including LV/HV electrical distribution, UPS, generators, cooling systems, and associated controls

Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on critical equipment to ensure maximum reliability and uptime

Conduct routine inspections, system rounds, and performance checks, recording readings and identifying anomalies

Analyse system performance data and take corrective action to prevent failures or inefficiencies

Support installation, commissioning, and repair of electrical and mechanical plant and associated infrastructure

Assist with planning and execution of shutdowns, ensuring all works are carried out in line with approved procedures and risk controls

Process and manage work orders for maintenance activities across building and site infrastructure

Monitor system alarms and respond effectively to faults, incidents, and emergency situations

Support incident response and recovery activities to maintain service continuity

Ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with health, safety, and environmental policies, including safe systems of work and permit processes

Follow formal change management procedures for all maintenance activities, ensuring appropriate approvals and documentation are in place

Maintain accurate records of maintenance, operational activities, and system status within site management systems

Basic Qualifications

Minimum five years of technical training, military experience, or equivalent workplace experience

Strong background in electrical and/or mechanical engineering within a critical environment

Experience working with power distribution, cooling systems, or building services infrastructure

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working within a data centre or other critical environment (e.g. healthcare, banking, utilities, or industrial facilities)

Relevant electrical or mechanical qualifications or certifications

Experience with HV/LV systems, UPS, generators, or cooling plant

Authorised Person (AP) or similar operational authorisation (desirable)

Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical building services systems within critical environments

Ability to analyse system performance, identify faults, and implement corrective actions

Knowledge of safe systems of work, including permit-to-work and isolation procedures

Effective communication skills with the ability to engage across operational and technical teams

Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a high‑availability environment

Strong organisational and problem‑solving skills

Competence with standard business systems and maintenance management tools

Ability to quickly learn and apply new technical knowledge within defined operational procedures

The role requires physical activity including standing, walking, lifting, and working with equipment. Regular lifting up to 50 lbs may be required, with additional support or equipment for heavier loads.
