About the position As a Mechanical Refrigeration Engineer, you will be a key player in designing and developing innovative industrial refrigeration and heat pump solutions for global clients. Working within a collaborative project team, you will contribute to sustainable, value-engineered projects that balance technical excellence with budgetary and time constraints. If you’re passionate about advancing refrigeration technology, optimizing processes, and working on global projects, this role is for you.
Your responsibilities and tasks Engineer customized and standardized refrigeration systems, ensuring compliance with CE-PED requirements and customer specifications.
Lead mechanical engineering efforts on projects, guiding junior engineers and hired professionals where needed.
Collaborate with project teams including CAD, automation, and electrical engineers to deliver high-quality refrigeration designs that meet international and local regulations.
Conduct risk analysis and prepare detailed documentation for HAZOP and QHSE.
Develop Functional Design Specifications (FDS) in partnership with automation engineers and ensure correct plant operations.
Support Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) with commissioning engineers and site supervisors.
Provide technical support to internal stakeholders, including sales and service teams, as well as clients.
Contribute to GEA-wide standardization and innovation efforts, continuously improving refrigeration technologies.
Your profile and qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Process Engineering or experience in refrigeration technology.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in industrial refrigeration, with knowledge of refrigeration plant safety, heat pumps, and regulatory directives.
Proficiency in CAD systems (Autodesk Plant P&) and MS Office.
Familiarity with international design standards and regulatory compliance.
Communication skills in Dutch is a plus. Understanding of English language is required.
Preferred:
Knowledge of industrial automation, ERP systems (Microsoft Axapta), and electrical schematics. VCA certification and marine refrigeration experience are beneficial.
