Galileo Ground Segment Network Coordinator
As a Galileo Ground Segment Network Coordinator, you will be part of the Ground Mission Segment and Ground Security Management Service within the Galileo Ground Segment Management Office, Galileo and EGNOS Programme Department, Directorate of Navigation.
Your primary focus will be on the development, integration and follow‑up of the Galileo ground segment network infrastructure, ensuring robust, secure and high‑performance connectivity across all mission‑critical sites.
Duties
Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:
serving as the business and technical officer responsible for the return on investment, governance and compliance of ESA’s investment in the Galileo ground segment network evolutions;
leading and coordinating within ESA and with its partners (the European Commission and EUSPA) the evolution roadmap of the Galileo ground segment network, in line with the project objectives;
coordinating a team of network engineering experts following the Galileo ground segment (i.e. ground mission segment, Galileo security facilities, Galileo control segment and security monitoring) to ensure overall consistency;
coordinating with the ESA ground segment platform engineers to ensure an integrated and secure ground segment infrastructure solution;
translating the ground segment network evolution roadmap into high‑level requirements and backlog items to be implemented by ESA’s industrial suppliers, taking account of security, performance and operational aspects;
steering the ESA industrial suppliers developing the Galileo ground segment in accordance with the needs expressed and project priorities using the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe);
accepting network deliveries from ESA’s industrial suppliers;
supporting the adoption and correct implementation of the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) within the network development activities and contributing to organisational changes as needed;
coordinating with other project functions including product assurance, safety and security activities;
providing expert technical support and consultancy to ESA projects and studies in the field of ground segment network engineering;
participating in feasibility studies, project reviews and procurement proposal evaluations related to network infrastructure;
identifying and resolving critical network development issues;
contributing to the definition of technology development requirements and work plans for network‑related technology programmes;
managing R&D activities for both short‑ and long‑term network needs;
fostering innovation in network architectures and technologies;
conducting laboratory activities as required;
monitoring scientific and technological trends in network engineering and maintaining state‑of‑the‑art expertise;
contributing to the dissemination of results and knowledge transfer across the Agency.
Strong background and experience in the development and procurement of network‑intensive ground systems, including cyber security‑ and security‑related aspects.
Solid experience in the management and monitoring of industrial activities, including participation in technical reviews.

A master’s degree in telecommunications engineering, computer science, networking or aerospace is required for this post. Alternatively, candidates with a bachelor’s degree, complemented by an additional four (4) years of relevant professional experience can be considered.
Additional requirements

Satellite constellation systems ground segment development
Global navigation systems (e.g. Galileo, GNSS signals and associated receiver technologies and standards)
Network security architecture
at least five years of technical experience in a directly related field;
knowledge and experience of the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe);
