About Surge Marine
Surge Marine is a pioneering defense technology startup specializing in the development of complex, autonomous, and remotely operated maritime systems. We engineer robust, high-performance marine platforms where system safety, reliability, and cutting-edge automation are critical. We are looking for a highly capable, hands‑on Electrical Engineer to join our core team and help build the electrical foundations of our next‑generation marine vessels.
The Role
As an Electrical Engineer at Surge Marine, you will bridge the gap between design and physical implementation. Working closely with the Chief Engineer and the broader systems automation team, you will be directly responsible for the hands‑on assembly, testing, and validation of our marine electrical propulsion and power distribution systems. This role requires a practical problem‑solver who is just as comfortable wiring a test bench as they are reviewing system schematics.
Key Responsibilities
Test Bench Operations: Design, build, and connect electrical test benches to safely and effectively run DC electrical motors for performance validation.
Hands‑on Integration: Execute the physical wiring, integration, and troubleshooting of propulsion and power systems for autonomous and remotely operated marine vessels.
Schematic Management: Read, interpret, and actively refine complex electrical schematics to ensure accurate physical assembly and system safety.
High‑Voltage Handling: Safely manage and configure DC systems, specifically working with 400V architectures, adhering to strict maritime and defense safety standards.
Cross‑Functional
Collaboration:
Work alongside automation engineers to ensure seamless integration between power systems, control structures, and remote operation hardware.
Minimum Requirements
Proven hands‑on experience interpreting and working directly from electrical schematics.
Demonstrated ability to physically connect and configure electrical test benches specifically designed to run DC electrical motors .
A strong foundation in electrical engineering principles with a relentless commitment to workplace safety and hardware protection protocols.
Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced startup environment, taking ownership of the testing and integration lifecycle.
Preferred Qualifications
Ideal: Direct, hands‑on experience building, testing, or maintaining 400V DC Systems .
Previous experience in the maritime, naval defense, or autonomous vehicle sectors.
Familiarity with high‑reliability system safety methodologies (such as STPA) or marine classification society standards.
What We Offer
The opportunity to be a crucial part of a rapidly growing defense technology startup.
Hands‑on work with cutting‑edge autonomous marine systems.
A dynamic, highly technical engineering environment located conveniently in Valkenburg (ZH).
