The position is to be filled on a fixed-term basis in accordance with § 72 HessHG at the Professorship of Exercise Physiology and Sports Therapy in the Faculty of Psychology and Sports Science. Remuneration will be paid in accordance with the provisions of the HBesG, as amended.

Provided that the maximum permissible duration of fixed-term employment is not exceeded, you will be employed for an initial period of three years. An extension of up to another three years is possible under the above-mentioned condition.

• Academic services in research and teaching in the fields of exercise physiology, sports therapy, prevention and health promotion in accordance with Section 72 of the Hessian Higher Education Act (HessHG), which also serve the candidate’s own further academic qualification
• Opportunity to conduct independent scientific research in the areas of molecular and cellular adaptations to exercise and training, with a focus on the link between the immune system and metabolism
• Teaching duties in accordance with the Teaching Obligation Ordinance of the State of Hesse, particularly in the areas of exercise physiology, sports physiology, sports therapy, prevention and therapy, and exercise- and health-related diagnostics
• Conduct and coordination of research tasks with biomedical, molecular biological, exercise physiological and health-promotion-related focuses
• Organisation, supervision and further development of laboratory-related workflows, including laboratory organisation, quality assurance, equipment management, documentation and compliance with applicable safety and hygiene standards
• Participation in administrative tasks of the professorship, in academic self-governance, and in the development and implementation of scientific projects

• Completed university degree in sport science, human biology, biomedicine, physiology or a related field, as well as a completed, relevant doctoral degree with a focus on exercise physiology, biomedicine or sports therapy
• Experience in university teaching and in the supervision of students, tutors and academic theses
• Extensive practical experience in the organisation and conduct of laboratory-based research, including laboratory organisation, method validation, quality control, sample management and documentation
• Very good knowledge of biomedical and molecular biology laboratory methods, in particular ELISA, Luminex ELISA or multiplex-based immunoassays, flow cytometry and cell culture
• Experience with metabolic analyses of cells and methods of cellular bioenergetics, in particular the analysis of mitochondrial function, cellular respiration and energy metabolism, for example using high-resolution respirometry and extracellular flux analyses
• Confident use of relevant statistical methods, statistical software and methods of empirical data analysis
• Evidence of scientific publication activity and third-party funding acquisition, as well as willingness to further develop an independent research profile
• Strong organisational skills, ability to work in a team, excellent communication skills and willingness to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration
