Job Description

As a volunteer for the Sophia Snuffel College you and your dog will visit primary schools to teach children how to handle dogs safely. You will lead three weekly lessons of 30 to 45 minutes: introduce the children to a hand puppet, then bring your dog into the classroom to practice petting, brushing, and giving treats. Children learn how to recognise a dog’s emotions and when to pet or leave them alone.

• Excellent communication with children and enjoy working in front of a class.
• Thorough knowledge of dog behaviour.
• Availability of at least nine half‑days per year during school hours.
• Represent the association and support its goals.
• Own transport to dog schools.
• Willingness to approach schools in your area.

• Minimum 18 months old and maximum 8 years old.
• Completed basic obedience course at a dog school.
• Covered by owner’s liability insurance (AVP).
• Stress resistant and enjoys interacting with children.
