Student project:
Validation and optimization of anti-fouling layers to develop filters for an artificial kidney
* Important for non-EU students: You'll need to be registered at a Dutch university to meet immigration requirements.
This project aims to validate and optimize anti-fouling layers on different substrates via quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) and reflectometry.
What you will doYou will work jointly in the labs at WUR (Physical Chemistry and Soft Matter) and imec-One Planet Research Center (Plus Ultra II). Additionally, there will be opportunities to work in imec’s Eindhoven headquarters at the Holst Center (High Tech Campus, Eindhoven).
This project focuses on investigating anti-fouling properties of coated substrates in blood and simulated blood. The tasks include:
- Designing and performing experiments to coat substrates with anti‑fouling layers.
- Designing and performing anti-fouling experiments with QCM and reflectometry.
- Data analysis and presentations to colleagues.
- Assessment of real use case performance of the anti-fouling coating (in complex bodily fluids).
We offer a challenging and international environment at the forefront of technology. At imec, it’s all about creating technology that adds to the quality of life. By joining the imec, Holst Center, and One Planet Research Center, you will be part of a team of world changers, disruptive innovators, and practical thinkers. Here, your ideas will have an impact on our future lives.
