Research Assistant (m/f/d)
with a focus on battery research
The position is part of the project “Optimization and scaling of argyrodite solid‑state electrolytes for all‑solid‑state batteries (OSAKA)” funded by the BMFTR and is to be filled until 31 December 2028. It will be based at the Institute of Physical Chemistry (Prof. Dr. Jürgen Janek) at the Faculty of Biology and Chemistry. The salary is in accordance with the collective labor agreement of the State of Hessen (E 13 TV‑H).
As part of the project, the upscaling of sulfide‑based all‑solid‑state batteries (ASSB) will be investigated in collaboration with our project partners. For this purpose, analytical methods and electrochemical measurements will be used here at JLU to support the development of an optimal composition and microstructure for the cathode. In addition, degradation reactions at the interface between the solid electrolyte and cathode active material (CAM) will be investigated and the effect of CAM coatings will be evaluated.
Yourtasks at a glance

- Close cooperation with colleagues within the project network
- Participating in project meetings and national and international scientific conferences
- Publishing results in scientific journals
- A scientific university degree in chemistry, physics, or materials science (MSc, diploma, or equivalent) with a grade of at least “good”
- Knowledge of materials and interface chemistry as well as surface analysis methods (especially ToF‑SIMS, XPS, FIB‑SEM)
- Practical knowledge of cell construction
- Experimental experience and skills in the preparation and characterization (surface analysis, electrochemical measurement methods) of batteries and battery materials (especially under protective gas atmosphere)
- Good IT skills, especially for data evaluation
- Proficiency in German and/or English (spelling and grammar)
- Strong communication skills and an interdisciplinary, open mindset
- Excellent written expression and scientific writing style for publication
- Interdisciplinary research in the field of analysis of energy‑relevant materials with excellent equipment in a world‑renowned research institute
- A varied job in a dynamic team with flexible working hours
