Job Description & How to Apply Below

Pasan SA designs and builds solar simulators that measure the performance of photovoltaic cells and modules, and is the reference in PV measurement, on Earth and in space, where our systems also qualify the cells and panels that power satellites. Together with our sister company Avalon ST, we supply LED and xenon flashers, thermal chambers, electroluminescence systems and complete test labs such as the Nexun range to the largest PV manufacturers, national laboratories, government agencies, certification bodies and research institutes worldwide.

The

role About Pasan

Pasan SA designs and builds solar simulators that measure the performance of photovoltaic cells and modules, and is the reference in PV measurement, on Earth and in space, where our systems also qualify the cells and panels that power satellites. Together with our sister company Avalon ST, we supply LED and xenon flashers, thermal chambers, electroluminescence systems and complete test labs such as the Nexun range to the largest PV manufacturers, national laboratories, government agencies, certification bodies and research institutes worldwide.

The

role

We are looking for an R&D and Service Engineer who enjoys both building new hardware and making installed machines run perfectly at customer sites. Roughly 70% of the time goes to development and 30% to service: installation, commissioning, calibration and troubleshooting, on site or remotely.

The two halves feed each other. What you learn in the field shapes the next design, and what you design you will one day commission yourself.

  • Location: Neuchâtel, Switzerland, with travel to customer sites worldwide (about 20 to 30% of the year)
  • Occupation: Full Time - On Site
  • Reports to: CTO
  • Start: as soon as possible
Responsibilities Research and development
  • Use AI tools throughout development, from design exploration and firmware and software coding to test analysis and documentation, to bring products to market faster
  • Design and improve electronics for our simulators: LED driver boards, power stages, electronic loads, measurement and acquisition circuits
  • Develop and debug embedded firmware for instrument control and data acquisition
  • Build and run test benches to validate irradiance uniformity, spectral match, temporal stability and IV measurement accuracy
  • Contribute to the PC control software, test protocols and calibration procedures
  • Write technical documentation: schematics, test reports, user and service manuals
  • Work with suppliers on component selection, obsolescence and second sourcing
Service
  • Install, commission and calibrate machines at customer sites, including factory and site acceptance tests (FAT and SAT)
  • Diagnose and repair faults remotely and on site, and handle helpdesk tickets end to end
  • Train customer operators and engineers on operation, calibration and maintenance
  • Run preventive maintenance and upgrades on the installed base
  • Feed recurring field issues back into design, and document known failure modes and fixes
Your profile
  • Curious, fast learning and dynamic: you dig into how things work and pick up new fields quickly. No specific degree required
  • High proficiency with AI tools, used daily to design, code, analyse and document
  • Electronic or technical background preferred but not mandatory: hands-on experience in hardware, test and measurement, or field service is a plus
  • Comfortable with an oscilloscope, a soldering iron and a schematic, or eager to become so
  • Methodical troubleshooter who stays calm in front of a customer when a machine is down
  • Fluent in English
  • Willing to travel internationally, often to production sites in Asia, India and the Middle East
  • Valid driving licence
Nice to have
  • Background in photovoltaics, optics, photometry or radiometry
  • Knowledge of IEC 60904 (PV device measurement) and metrology practice under ISO/IEC 17025
  • PCB design experience (KiCad, Altium or similar)
  • Experience with LED or xenon light sources, pulsed power or high current measurement
What we offer
  • A rare mix of lab work and field work on world-class PV measurement equipment
  • Real ownership in a small team: your designs ship, and you see them working at the customer
  • International exposure with customers on every continent and a sister team in Shanghai
  • Competitive Swiss salary and conditions
