Location: Pahrump

This position serves as the intermediate level in the class series, where clerks perform a full range of assigned duties, exercising independent judgment and initiative with occasional guidance in response to new or unusual situations. They possess a thorough understanding of operating procedures and policies within their work unit and are proficient in District Court systems' terminology, procedures, and documents.

Clerks frequently interact with court officials, attorneys, and the public, interpreting and applying rules and regulations, often requiring tact and judgment. Positions in this class series are typically filled by promotion from the Clerk I level, based on experience and proven performance. External hires must possess relevant prior experience to meet qualification standards.

Under supervision, clerks carry out various administrative, technical, and specialized support tasks for the District Court, including criminal and civil case management, courtroom assistance, customer service, and data entry, while also providing information and assistance to the public.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintains accurate case files, office records, and a tracking system for legal documents.
  • Prepares and distributes court calendars; ensures all files, documents, evidence, and materials are organized and available before court sessions.
  • Ensures court officials and participants are informed about the case under consideration.
  • Attends court, administers oaths, swears in juries and others, maintains audio, video, and manual records of actions, and prepares minute orders summarizing proceedings.
  • Files orders and legal documents, scans them, and tracks their status.
  • Maintains the chain of evidence and ensures the security of all property, files, and documents; marks exhibits as required.
  • Maintains effective working relationships with individuals from diverse socio-economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Sets cases for hearing, ensuring deadlines are met, and keeps case status records up to date.
  • Responds to inquiries and provides information regarding court proceedings to attorneys, officials, county staff, and the public.
  • Composes various types of correspondence.
  • Contributes to the efficiency of the court by offering suggestions and actively participating in work teams.
  • May direct the work of and instruct others in court procedures; prepares periodic or special reports related to work performed.
  • Operates office equipment, including court case management systems, videoconferencing tools, and software such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Qualifications

Job Requirements:

• Graduation from high school or equivalent to a G.E.D. or high school proficiency exam.
• Two (2) years of full-time clerical or office support experience, one year of which is in a legal or court setting is preferred.
• At least one (1) year of full-time experience in recording actions and assisting with courtroom activities in a District Court or similar court setting.
• Additionally, candidates should have a minimum of two (2) years of experience as Deputy District Court Clerk II, or equivalent experience, and the ability to meet qualification standards.
• The candidate must be capable of independently perform the duties of a District Courtroom Clerk.
• Professional-level experience or education that provides the necessary skills and knowledge to perform the job functions may be substituted for the required qualifications on a year-for-year basis.
