Position Summary
The Fernley Intermediate school district is seeking a 5th/6th Grade Teacher for the 2025/26 school year. The role involves implementing the Nevada Academic Content State Standards and the district-approved curriculum, fostering a positive learning environment, supporting programmatic goals, and reporting directly to the site administrator.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Administer appropriate district curriculum aligned with Nevada State Standards and upcoming Common Core State Standards.
- Ensure all students have the opportunity to learn in a respectful environment.
- Create and maintain a positive, orderly, academically focused instructional environment.
- Develop and implement effective lessons using the LCSD lesson plan template.
- Analyze student progress and provide individualized instruction and feedback.
- Ensure compliance with special services such as IEPs and related mandates.
- Provide classroom management and discipline that ensures safety at all times.
- Actively contribute to the School Performance Plan (SPP) process.
- Ensure compliance with assessment regulations and guidelines.
- Develop a classroom climate that promotes positive learning conditions.
- Handle stress and interact professionally with administration, staff, parents, and community.
- Integrate technology into instructional programs, curriculum, and lessons.
- Maintain accurate and timely records in the student software system (e.g., Infinite Campus).
- Participate in other job-related duties and activities as assigned.
- Maintain regular punctuality and attendance.
- Demonstrate knowledge, skill, and ability to provide instruction in an elementary classroom.
- Work cooperatively with students, parents, peers, administration, and community members.
- Guide the learning process toward achievement of curriculum and student goals.
- Establish and communicate clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and strategies aligned with instructional objectives to meet the needs of all students.
- Collaborate with other faculty and staff.
- Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law and district policy.
- Maintain and improve professional competence through continued education and in‑service.
- Communicate professionally and effectively in written, oral, and non‑verbal terms.
- Perform other job‑related duties as may be assigned by the site administrator/supervisor.
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Possess or be able to acquire a Nevada teaching license issued by the Nevada Department of Education and be certified in the relevant subject area.
- Meet the minimum qualifications listed on the position vacancy announcement.
Ability to use keyboard and video display terminal for prolonged periods, bend, stoop, sit, and stand for long periods, handle files, lift up to 25 pounds occasionally, and use educational technology such as LCD projector, Smart Board, and iPads/tablets. Hearing and speech for communication in person or over the phone are required.
Working ConditionsWork is performed under climate‑controlled classroom settings with exposure to varying outside temperatures, moderate to very loud noise levels, and crowded environments. Hazards may include classroom furniture, playground/office equipment, communicable diseases, chemicals, and power/hand‑operated equipment.

Salary & BenefitsAnnual salary range: $49,764‑$89,318 (dependent upon previous experience) with employer‑paid retirement.
