Salary Range: $49,764.00–$89,318 annually (Employer‑paid retirement, dependent upon previous experience)

Terms of Employment: 9 Months (185/189 Days)

FLSA Status: NON‑EXEMPT, salaried position assigned to the Licensed Employee Salary Schedule.

Position Summary

The special education teacher is responsible for establishing goal‑oriented teaching strategies based on proven instructional techniques that benefit students with mild/moderate disabilities within a comprehensive life‑skills program. Instruction covers functional curriculum domains: domestic, vocational, recreational, community, functional academics. The teacher adheres to the LCSD Professional Standards and reports directly to the school site administrator.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Follow mandated compliance standards established by Federal, State, or District regulations.
  • Maintain appropriate student records and submit required reports within designated time limits.
  • Ensure strict confidentiality of student records and information.
  • Demonstrate acceptable command of the English language in written and oral communication.
  • Perform clerical duties such as attendance, budgeting of materials, and recording of grades promptly and accurately.
  • Attend and participate in all required training.
  • Manage and assign additional adult support (e.g., paraprofessional) as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records in Power School.
  • Provide instruction related to functional curriculum domains.
  • Utilize research‑based instructional methods and materials (e.g., general education curriculum, Edmark, Touch Math, FACTER, LCCE, Syracuse).
  • Create meaningful, relevant activities for instruction.
  • Deliver instruction in natural settings (e.g., regular education classroom, community based).
  • Use age‑appropriate instructional materials and tasks; provide differentiated or multi‑leveled instruction.
  • Ensure standards‑based instruction and appropriate assessment tools (e.g., state alternate assessment).
  • Apply instructional adaptations (picture cues, student grouping, cooperative learning, sign language, individualized schedules).
  • Teach functional communication skills and utilize individualized communication tools (e.g., picture cards, electronic devices).
  • Address student behaviors individually through positive behavioral supports and appropriate goals.
  • Monitor student progress through regular data collection and adjust individual plans during annual IEP meetings or more frequently.

  • Demonstrate knowledge, skill, and ability to provide instruction in an elementary classroom.
  • Work cooperatively with students, parents, peers, administration, and community members.
  • Guide the learning process toward achievement of curriculum and student goals.
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and strategies aligned with instructional objectives.
  • Participate as a collaborative member with other faculty and staff.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law and district policy.
  • Maintain and improve professional competence through continued education and in‑service training.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively in written, oral, and non‑verbal terms.
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned by the site administrator/supervisor.
Position Requirements

Education and Training:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university;
Master’s Degree preferred. Experience in a special education setting preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

Must possess or be able to acquire a Nevada teaching license issued by the Nevada Department of Education and be certified in the relevant subject area.

Physical and Mental Requirements
