Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Responsibilities

You will serve as a primary interface for our Certified Packaging Program (CPP). You will be an integral part of our team of experts providing services such as fissile material handling, certified packaging operations, leakage rate testing, and transportation of hazardous materials in support of the MSTS Plutonium Modernization Storage Program and various NNSS projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • At the direction of the Fissile Material Handler (FMH) Supervisor, handle significant quantities of nuclear material and configure test objects as a Fissile Material Handler.
  • Support transfers of material per the Onsite Transportation Safety Program as a Transfer Coordinator.
  • Support the Certified Packaging Center (CPC) Supervisor to develop and maintain approved procedures to perform certified packaging and staging operations.
  • Support the FMH Training Officer during training development and implementation, as needed.

Under general supervision of the FMH Supervisor this position may:

  • Support operations and maintenance at Nuclear or High Hazard (HH) facilities to maintain a condition and configuration to accept and support programs and projects.
  • Access buildings, conduct walk‑downs, inspections, and/or monitoring rounds to verify facility readiness to conduct or continue operations.
  • Provide support for execution of program/project activities and data collection (i.e., fissile material handling, chemical, explosive, and radiological, etc.).
  • Exercise independent judgment within level of responsibility. Apply knowledge and training to ensure all activities are conducted safely and consistently in compliance with applicable requirements.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a field related to the position plus at least 2 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience working with requirements‑based systems for areas such as nuclear material operations, facility operations, maintenance, radiological facilities, high explosives operations, or chemical handling, storage, transfer, and controlled release activities.
  • Training or experience in areas related to nuclear operations or nuclear maintenance such as those found at a DOE nuclear facility, commercial power plant, or US Navy Nuclear Propulsion Program is a plus.
  • Ability to read and follow detailed instructions utilizing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s). Conduct in‑service inspections (ISIs) and system surveillances. Includes verification and validation of new or revised SOPs.
  • Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills. Computer skills in MS Word, Excel, and MS Outlook are desired.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and experience with hand tools is necessary.
