Technologist - Intrusion Detection Systems role at Nevada National Security Sites.
Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the NNSS for the U.S. NNSA. MSTS aims to help ensure the security of the United States and its allies by providing high-hazard experimentation and incident response capabilities, through operations, engineering, education, field, and integration services, and by environmental stewardship of the Site’s Cold War legacy.

Responsibilities- Assist in the preparation of specifications for structures, systems, and equipment.
- Under guidance of the Principal Technologist or supervisors:
- Work in teams performing corrective and preventative maintenance on Intrusion Detection systems used by MSTS and/or subcontractors in assigned areas.
- Work in teams performing installation of Intrusion Detection systems and CCTV used by MSTS and/or subcontractors in assigned areas.
- Make routine calculations and analyses in support of design engineering, such as earthwork, material quantity takeoff, and statistical data.
- Assist in computer-related activities, such as preparing data and using computers to solve technical problems.
- Assist engineers in reviewing and recommending action on requests for engineering change orders and obtain required approvals.
- Perform technical research and gather data needed by engineers.
- Participate in the On Call Program and provide mission critical support.
- Assist with detailed review of drawings to ensure accuracy, completeness, and format suitability.
- May provide support of operations at Nuclear or High Hazard facilities to maintain a condition and configuration to accept and support programs and projects.
- Contribute to solutions of assignment-related problems and issues with limited scope and basic complexity, following standards and procedures.
- Assist in operating equipment and tools necessary for assignments, including radiation detection equipment, electronics, and networking components.
- Follow checklists for equipment-related tasks such as calibration, testing, and operation of equipment or tools.
- Assist in defining specifications for procurements and initiate purchase requests.
- Provide support for execution of program/project activities and data collection (e.g., classified systems/networks, diagnostics, and laser systems).
- Associate degree in a field related to the position plus at least 3 years’ progressive related experience, or a High School diploma plus 5 years’ progressive related experience.
- Some vocational training preferred, with electronics vocational training or field experience preferred.
- The ability to work independently or in a team environment on a wide variety of tasks is critical.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and Outlook is required.
- Will be required to participate in the Human Reliability Program (HRP).
- Primary work location will be at the Nevada National Security Site (65 miles north of Las Vegas, NV).
- Work schedule:
4/10’s, Monday – Thursday (subject to change). Overtime may be required for On Call Program support. - Pre-placement physical examination, including a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are subject to a federal background investigation to meet access to classified information or matter if the duties require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse, falsification of information, criminal activity, or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE.
