GENERAL AND APPELLATE FULL-TIME LAW CLERK Duties

Review and summarize evidence, procedural history, and legal contentions in habeas corpus petitions, and time credit and sentencing matters.

Review and summarize evidence, procedural history, and legal contentions in civil and criminal matters, including family law, division of child and family service cases and juvenile proceedings.

Assists with drafting documents for specialty courts.

Research legal authorities, including statutory and case law and legislative history using computerized Westlaw legal research.

Prepare memoranda, summarize case backgrounds, identify and analyze factual and legal issues, and orally brief Judge on research and analysis pertaining to assigned matters.

Drafts rulings including minute orders, formal orders, and tentative decisions.

Responds to Judge’s queries on procedural and substantive issues during trials and pre-trial hearings, including motions in limine, evidentiary objections, jury instructions, status of case authorities cited by counsel, and points of substantive law.

Research, analyze, and formulate recommended policies, procedures, and forms related to specified court proceedings and recurring issues at the request of the Judge.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

This position requires knowledge and experience in criminal law and criminal procedure. Applicant must have strong writing skills, and an ability to work independently.
Graduation from an ABA accredited Law School.
Nevada law license preferred.
Knowledge, skill and abilities in principles, practices, methods and materials of legal research, including familiarity with Westlaw.
Valid Nevada Driver’s license.
