Description

Leidos is seeking a Chief of Supply Depot Operations to lead all operations for the Hawthorne Army Depot (HWAD) Operations and Maintenance (O&M) contract in Hawthorne, NV. This position is a key leadership role, reporting directly to the Deputy Program Manager (DPM), and is responsible for ensuring the efficient, safe, and effective handling, storage, and demilitarization of conventional and non‑standard ammunition.

The successful candidate will drive program success by optimizing supply depot functions and maintaining strict accountability using the Logistics Modernization Program (LMP).

About

HWAD is a Government‑Owned, Contractor‑Operated (GOCO) facility and the largest Army Depot in the Organic Industrial Base. It serves as a crucial archival storage and demilitarization (DEMIL) site for a wide array of munitions. In addition to supply depot functions, the operating contractor is responsible for maintaining and modernizing all equipment and facilities, as well as providing base support services such as grounds maintenance, fire protection, and security.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operational Leadership
    :
    Plan, direct, and supervise all supply depot operations, including the storage, inventory, receipt, issue, and demilitarization of munitions and explosives.
  • Team Management
    :
    Review workload and priorities, plan and schedule daily work assignments, and monitor the performance of subordinate employees.
  • Inventory Control
    :
    Oversee the planning and execution of periodic and special ammunition inventories. Conduct reviews to correct discrepancies and implement continuous improvements for stock control and accounting processes.
  • Regulatory Compliance
    :
    Ensure all activities are performed in accordance with the Performance Work Statement (PWS) and all applicable U.S. government laws, regulations, and safety standards, including DA Pam 385‑64 and DA PAM 385‑10.
  • Shipping and Logistics
    :
    Coordinate the shipment of munitions and make recommendations to higher echelons regarding the shipment plan when storage space is unavailable.
  • Stakeholder Engagement
    :
    Maintain close coordination with the on‑site Contracting Officer Representative (COR) and Quality Assurance Specialist Ammunition Surveillance (QASAS) inspectors. Respond promptly and appropriately to all findings.
  • Safety and Security
    :
    Perform key control and crime prevention procedures to mitigate the risk of theft or loss of ammunition and explosives (A&E). Immediately report any significant or serious incidents.
  • Process Improvement
    :
    Develop and update the depot's Storage Plan and contribute to the development of specific Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Reporting
    :
    Collect data and produce reports as required by senior management or government representatives.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and at least four (4) years of supervisory experience in ammunition storage and handling operations.
  • Proven experience supervising a minimum of 50 personnel.
  • Demonstrated expertise in ammunition and explosives (A&E) safety standards, including storage and quantity distance procedures as prescribed by DA Pam 385‑64.
  • Working knowledge of all Class V regulatory requirements, including the DA PAM 385‑10 Army Safety Program.
  • Must be fluent in written and spoken English.
  • Must pass a background National Agency Check and be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with the Logistics Modernization Program (LMP) for munitions accountability.
  • Familiarity with demilitarization (DEMIL) operations.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Experience operating heavy machinery and industrial tools related to depot operations.
