DEFINITION:
Works under immediate supervision of the Executive Director. Performs necessary preventive maintenance work needed on housing units. Must be able to complete work orders on housing units in a timely manner. This position includes a working knowledge of materials, tools, equipment, infrastructure, repairs and facilities.
- Repair or renovate residential units using proper safety precautions and tools.
- Demonstrate at least three maintenance skills (carpentry, painting, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, HVAC, heating systems, hand tools, motor mechanics).
- Operate light to heavy equipment; repair, replace and maintain property (e.g., remove windows safely, replace water heaters, basic plumbing, pellet stoves).
- Maintain an inventory log of tools, equipment, materials and fixtures.
- Listen to participant suggestions regarding a project and report suggestions to the Executive Director.
- Perform duties as directed by the Executive Director following work order processes.
- Report equipment problems or property damage immediately to the Executive Director and handle emergency maintenance problems.
- Have general working knowledge of performing maintenance and following WRHD policies.
- Complete all work orders and assignments efficiently and expeditiously.
- Perform other related duties as assigned; may work long hours and be called out on weekends.
- Exercise initiative and sound judgment in carrying out responsibilities in a professional manner.
- Possess knowledge and experience in Indian Housing and Maintenance Programs.
- Complete written reports as required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well with people and participants.
- Trouble‑shoot appliances, fireplace inserts and other home systems.
- Work effectively in a teamwork environment and assist the team in completing projects.
- Work with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of the use of appropriate tools, materials, equipment and facilities.
- Willingness to learn current WRHD policies and procedures.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with WRHD staff and participants.
- Perform required record‑keeping and inventory control tasks following departmental policies.
- Sensitivity to Native American culture, traditions, customs and socioeconomic needs.
- Valid Nevada Driver’s License and insurable under WRHD vehicle insurance policy.
- Current DMV driving record.
- OSHA certification or willingness to acquire OSHA certification.
- Pass a pre‑employment drug/alcohol screening.
- Pass a background check.
