Position: Landfill Equipment Operator/ Truck Driver
Location: Hawthorne

Essential Functions

(Performance of these functions is the reason the job exists. Assigned job tasks/duties are not limited to the essential functions)

  • Responsible for the safe operation of all equipment to ensure the safety for other employees, himself and all other persons entering the landfill area. Will also be responsible for the routine maintenance on equipment. Will be responsible for screening of waste material and has the authority to refuse any material not permitted in the landfill. Periodically will be required to perform the duties of the landfill technician in the absence of the landfill technician, including assisting the public, collecting money and completing daily reports.
  • Will have authority to control the location of materials which may be disposed of by private citizens, businesses and contractors.
  • Shall perform other duties as directed by the Director of Hawthorne Utilities, Office Manager, Foreman and/or Utilities Operator Leader
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

(KSAs are the attributes required to perform a job; generally demonstrated through qualifying experience, education, or training.)

Knowledge of
  • Knowledge of the methods, techniques, tools and equipment of earth moving and landfill operations and the skill in its use, adjustment and minor maintenance.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions required in safe and efficient performance of assigned duties.
  • Operate various types of heavy equipment used in the operation of the landfill and transfer station.
Skills
  • Drive, dump, clean, inspect and maintain trucks and heavy equipment
  • Properly operate equipment and vehicles;
Ability to
  • Understand regulations and procedures and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Perform duties safely for employees and the general public and that all operations of departments are performed in compliance with State, Federal and local laws
  • Perform maintenance and collection for extended periods of time;
  • Work effectively under the pressure of deadlines, conflicting demands, and emergencies;

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of City/County staff, elected officials, and the general public;

  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Required Certifications and Licenses
  • A valid Nevada driver’s license and a valid CDL Class B license with tankers, air brake endorsements and manual transmission.
