The Opportunity
A CMS Engineering Technician is responsible for a variety of field-centric duties including performing field testing for concrete, soils, asphalt, structural connections, and other construction materials. Responsibilities include completing and submitting accurate Daily Field reports, performing routine tests, and calculations related to construction materials testing and field observations. Engineering Technicians assist staff with field monitoring and operate required equipment on project sites.
They take and transport construction material samples, interpret and communicate test results to contractors, clients, architects, and project teams. Technicians must recognize and communicate construction challenges promptly and maintain testing equipment properly to prevent failures or erroneous results. SME’s ideal candidate will be able to fulfill the following responsibilities:
- Conduct detailed on-site reviews to assess construction progress, evaluate contractor adherence to specifications, identify challenges, perform specialized tests, analyze data, and make recommendations to keep projects on track.
- Perform various tests on construction materials to ensure quality standards are met.
- Prepare detailed reports summarizing observations, test results, and issues.
- Evaluate construction practices for improvement opportunities.
- Analyze project data to inform decisions and enhancements.
- Implement quality control procedures to meet standards.
- Collaborate with engineers, supervisors, and contractors to facilitate communication and progress.
- Identify and troubleshoot construction challenges with effective solutions.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, building codes, and standards.
- Use technology tools and software for data collection and reporting.
- Stay updated with industry trends and best practices.
Requirements
- Proficiency with computer systems and MS Office Suite.
- Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with clients and team members.
- Strong organizational skills for managing workloads and maintaining records.
- Interpersonal skills to build rapport and provide excellent service.
- Ability to adapt to change and manage interruptions.
- Basic construction knowledge, including interpretation of surveys, maps, and understanding construction stakes and utility markings.
- Aptitude for resolving technical problems using critical thinking.
- Ethical conduct, confidentiality, and adherence to safety protocols.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, walk on uneven ground, and work in various weather conditions.
