Summary/Objective
The focus of the Process Engineer’s work will be process optimization and tooling innovation by designing and developing tooling and machines that support prototype builds and processes including cable prep, cable termination, and assembly. The Process Engineer will work with upstream and downstream groups to ensure concepts are scalable and meet intent.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities
Design, detail, and develop new tooling, processes, and machines to support new cable designs.R&D new technologies and processes that may enhance HDR production.Refine and optimize processing equipment for improved quality, efficiency, and yield.Perform project management with manufacturing WCs from process conception, design, detail, debug and release.Support prototype builds for customer approval, R&D, and process development.Review and provide feedback on new HDR designs and layouts.Execute structured problem‑solving experiments which identify key process variables using DoE, (5
Ws) and 8D type methodologies.Work with outside vendors to research and find new technologies that will improve the quality and throughput of new and existing products.Use Six Sigma problem‑solving methodologies (DMAIC, A3, PDCA) to determine root cause/solutions to challenges.Communicate effectively and work with other teams on ensuring new products, processes, and tooling are compatible with downstream processes.Lead meetings and presentations that communicate the team’s efforts and progress to stakeholders within Samtec.Act as the owner/subject matter expert to collect and analyze data that pinpoints and drives new tooling and machines.Required Experience
3+ years of experience in designing assemblies for manufacturing tooling, equipment, and process development for products with dimensional tolerances.Extensive Solid Works experience, AutoCAD, PDM.Experience launching new products and manufacturing processes into production.Solid understanding and application of physics and engineering fundamentals.Proven problem solver – demonstrated experience of data‑driven root cause analysis.Must have familiarity with process engineering skills (process development/improvement, troubleshooting, data analysis, constraint analysis, flow optimization, root cause analysis, etc.).Experience performing analysis of data in software such as Minitab, Excel, JMP.Detail oriented with strong record‑keeping and organizational skills.Effective communication skills both written and verbal.Experience/background in a manufacturing environment.Preferred Education
- Bachelors Degree in engineering, materials, physics, chemistry, or related discipline.
