Job Summary
We are looking for a talented and proactive SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) with a strong background in SQL development and performance tuning, particularly within the utility sector. This position involves a blend of database administration and development responsibilities, focusing on optimizing database performance and supporting application teams in real‑time applications, SCADA, and transmission/distribution systems.

Job DescriptionWhat you’ll do:
- Monitor and maintain database health, performance, and security.
- Implement and manage database backup and recovery strategies.
- Ensure high availability and disaster recovery readiness.
- Manage user access and roles, ensuring compliance with data governance and security policies.
- Perform audits and vulnerability assessments to maintain security standards.
- Analyze and optimize SQL queries and overall database performance.
- Identify and resolve bottlenecks in database systems.
- Implement indexing, tuning strategies, and partitioning for performance gains.
- Resolve platform‑related issues and participate in incident response.
- Coordinate with vendors for product‑related issues, patches, and bug fixes.
- Work closely with application developers, system administrators, and business analysts to understand new requirements and recommend high‑level direction and approach.
- Provide support for development, testing, and production environments.
- Develop scripts for monitoring, maintenance, and automation tasks.
- Utilize tools like shell scripting, Python, or Perl to automate processes.
Database Administrator Developer Sr (Grade
8)
Education requirements:
Associates Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications or related Technical field or higher from an accredited college/university or high school diploma and two years related military or electric utility technical experience.
Work experience requirements:
Six (6) years EMS/SCADA experience with associate’s degree or eight (8) years of experience with a high school diploma. Individuals with a bachelor's degree and 4 years of EMS/SCADA experience may be considered for entry into the organization at this level.
Additional knowledge areas: application development, operating system support, computer system administration, database technologies and support.
Other Requirements- Proven experience in installation, configuration, and management of SQL Server (including multiple instances on a single server/VM).
- Expertise in performance tuning, index management, and SQL query optimization.
- Strong skills in TSQL and Power Shell.
- Working experience with Mongo
DB and Postgre
SQL. - Background in utility space, real‑time applications, SCADA, and transmission/distribution systems is an added advantage.
Grade 8‑$96K – $125K
