SummaryThe Controls Lead for Automation Integration coordinates the shop's required technological activities from initial planning through the electrical build execution phase to pre‑commissioning the equipment for software start‑up. Additionally, the role assists Software Engineers throughout start‑up to prepare for final acceptance testing of all automation projects prior to shipping to customer facility locations.
Duties and Responsibilities- Attends the Project Managers kick‑off meetings to ensure a SOW is provided to shop planning, controls manufacturing, identifying total content for the integration pre‑commissioning tasks and execution.
- Reviews the PM project timelines and provides shop feedback on capability and internal capacity to meet the schedule and milestone deadlines.
- Reviews the controls integration statement of work based on strategic sourcing, determining what will be released as a “turnkey build” and what will be manufactured internally or locally outsourced. Provides scheduling information to the BPM processing release and final assembly teams.
- Monitors controls purchased parts, both ordering requirements and delivery, with 2/4/6 week look‑ahead. Identifies specifics for material timing mis‑alignment and creates a shortage list for the Project Manager.
- Communicates consistently with electricians, assists to schedule in‑house or contingent resources needed to perform the integration and pre‑commissioning objectives on a project‑by‑project basis.
- Ensures adherence to customer specifications and established supporting procedures.
- Attends the Manufacturing Kick‑off, weekly Build Status meetings, gathering information relevant to integration planning and pre‑commissioning.
- Monitors and provides job status updates, manpower requirements to Managers, and ensures that the integration team is appropriately staffed to meet both immediate and future demands.
- Conducts a shop floor integration status meeting to ensure that work assignments are understood, tracked, and the commissioning statuses are clearly communicated and documented.
- Identifies changes both internally and externally, communicates change requests and NCRs to the Managers, and communicates back with Engineering issues and lessons learned, implementing corrective actions as necessary.
- Assists in maintaining departmental standards, forms, work instructions, CI and procedures.
- Provides recommendations to investigate and implement any new technologies, suggesting new and innovative ways to apply them.
- Five years of Controls technical experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- This position may require a government security clearance. The candidate must be a US Citizen for consideration.
Skills and Abilities
- Experienced in automation, electrical application concepts, practices, and procedures.
- Ability to read and understand electrical and pneumatic schematics.
- Background in PLC, HMI, and motion control programming.
- Relies on personal experience to understand and plan work to accomplish goals.
- Motivated with strong interpersonal skills, a proactive work ethic, and excellent oral/written communication. Effectively presents information, written or otherwise, to leadership.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
