Role OverviewThe Bakery Clerk creates an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service while encouraging other associates to do the same. As a team member, you will establish and maintain a safe and clean environment that encourages our customers to return. You will assist the department manager in reaching sales and profit goals established for the department and monitor all established quality assurance standards.
Most importantly, you will demonstrate Kroger’s core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety.
- Prepare baked goods per customer requests using proper equipment.
- Offer product samples to help customers discover new items.
- Inform customers of bakery specials.
- Provide customers with fresh products requested and the correct portion size.
- Recommend bakery items to ensure satisfaction.
- Use all kitchen equipment according to company guidelines.
- Prepare foods according to temperature logs and instructions.
- Measure, prepare, and mix ingredients according to recipe.
- Package, label, and inventory ingredients.
- Check product quality for freshness and review sell‑by dates.
- Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
- Report product ordering and shipping discrepancies.
- Maintain awareness of store layout and product location.
- Stay current with advertisements and product knowledge.
- Maintain inventory accuracy and report discrepancies.
- Ensure temperature compliance in cases and coolers.
- Promote trust and respect among associates.
- Answer customer questions regarding in‑department and store products.
- Adhere to all food safety regulations.
- Identify unsafe conditions and notify management.
- Practice preventive maintenance and report needed repairs.
- Report safety risks, incidents, and illegal activity.
- Perform essential duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Outstanding customer service skills.
- Desire to gain an understanding of food production and basic cooking techniques.
- Effective communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team.
- Strong work ethic and the ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
- Good basic math skills.
- Ability to obtain a current food handlers permit once employed.
