Reporting to the ED-Division of Police and Public Safety, the Chief of Police serve as the second‑in‑command, providing strategic leadership, operational direction, and administrative oversight to ensure the safety and security of the Southcoast community.
This role plays a pivotal part in advancing a culture of integrity, transparency, and community partnership, while upholding the highest standards of law enforcement excellence and professionalism.
Qualifications- A bachelor's degree in criminal justice required; a master’s degree in public administration, criminal justice, or related field is desirable; ten years of police experience, with at least two (2) years in a significant command or supervisory capacity; or any equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
- Experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
- Candidate must be a graduate of a full‑time Municipal Police Academy Training certified and approved by the Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC) or equivalent.
- Candidate must be a certified police officer in Massachusetts per MPTC/POST standards.
- Must hold or be able to acquire within 90 days of appointment, certification as police officer issued by Massachusetts Criminal Justice Training Council;
Massachusetts Class D Driver’s License; and firearms certification and license to carry. - Completion of Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) De‑Escalation Training; OC Pepper (OCAT), Handcuffing (PATH), Baton (PPBT), Incident Command System (ICS) training IS 100, IS 200, IS 700, IS 800, IS 300, and IS 400;
Haz Mat/HAZWOPER within one year of eligibility required. - Must be fully vaccinated against seasonal influenza and the COVID‑19 virus or be exempt from the requirement for medical or personal reasons by signing a statement certifying you are choosing to be exempt from vaccination once hired.
