Position Summary

The Safety Manager is a visible leadership and development role supporting safety, security, and facility maintenance. The role ensures adherence to DSV’s Safety Program Policies and Procedures, compliance with statutory requirements (including OHSAS 18001:2007), and national regulations. The Safety Manager serves as a subject‑matter expert and consultant, helping internal clients build sustainable loss‑improvement processes and ensuring the facility aligns with corporate mission, vision, and values.

Reporting to the site General Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Safety
  • Develop and maintain HSE policies and procedures.
  • Overall responsibility for safety and security of assigned facility, operations, and staff.
  • Maintain positive Incident-Free Rate (IFR) statistics and other safety metrics.
  • Ensure compliance with DSV Safety Programs, Standard Operating Procedures, and site‑specific SOPs.
  • Establish HSE goals consistent with corporate policies and aligned with site vision.
  • Ensure qualified and trained HSE resources are in place; support necessary HSE activities.
  • Implement systems to comply with all applicable HSE laws and regulations and maintain compliance data.
  • Communicate site HSE goals, action plans, and results; update KPI scores and action plans regularly.
  • Review and develop HSE policies and procedures annually, ensuring training is completed.
  • Consult with senior managers and operation managers; advise on best‑practice policies and procedures.
  • Keep staff and leadership informed of changes in HSE legislation and corporate HSE processes.
Risk Assessment
  • Devise, develop, and monitor effective risk‑assessment strategies and implementation.
  • Ensure risk assessments are completed by qualified individuals.
Monitoring Performance (Documentation, Tracking, Statistics and Reporting)
  • Propose, implement, and monitor measures to comply with HSE regulations.
  • Design, implement, and monitor workplace safety audits; enforce corrective actions.
  • Serve as DSV representative for OSHA, EPA, DOT, DHS, and other agencies.
  • Audit facility and personnel for deficiencies and address promptly.
  • Manage worker compensation claims until closure.
Health and Safety
  • Maintain accident statistics, analyze trends, and propose remedial action.
  • Investigate accidents and near‑misses; prepare reports and recommend actions.
  • Support risk assessments and monitor their availability and appropriateness.
  • Implement Emergency Management System (EMS) procedures; conduct drills annually.
  • Serve as liaison between management and staff on HSE matters.
  • Maintain OSHA record‑keeping, reporting, and required training programs.
  • Provide safety training for new hires; ensure all employees recognize potential hazards.
Environmental Management
  • Ensure legal compliance and reduce non‑compliance risk.
  • Identify environmental improvement opportunities.
  • Represent operation with health, safety, and environment bodies.
  • Integrate environmental management and sustainability into policies and operations.
  • Manage USEPA and other environmental agency reporting.
Facility Maintenance
  • Oversee facility upkeep, security and material handling equipment.
  • Schedule regular maintenance to meet regulatory compliance.
  • Set continuous improvement goals for the site.
Operation & Labor Management
  • Support mentoring, succession planning, and management development.
Budgeting
  • Identify cost improvement initiatives generating positive EBIT.
  • Manage controls ensuring service levels and operational performance goals are met within cost, revenue, and profit parameters.
Customer Service
  • Monitor KPIs for respective accountability area.
Other Duties
  • Communicate problems to leadership; implement solutions.
  • Follow all safety procedures.
