What You’ll DoReporting to the Manufacturing Manager, the Machinist is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. This role requires a strong understanding of machining processes, blueprints, and quality control standards.
Shift Schedule1st Shift 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
Technical Job- Read and interpret work orders, blueprints, and specifications to determine machine setup, type of material or part, quantity, and finish dimensions
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the program language to identify possible errors and edit as required to improve finish requirements
- Create and modify programs directed by Engineering or Management for program development purposes
- Assemble and operate CNC machines, including 5‑axis, to meet desired specifications
- Maintain specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes
- Install and align machine accessories, such as cutting tools, work positioners, plates, fixtures, and shields, using hand tools and measuring instruments, or coordinating information into computer control panel
- Manipulate machine controls, such as buttons, switches, dials, levers, and pedals, to regulate and adjust cutting speed and feeds
- Make necessary offsets to maintain print/sketch tolerances and demonstrate a thorough understanding of tool pressure and wear
- Measure dimensions of finished part, using measuring instruments, such as micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators, or check fixture
- Cut parts by controlling movement of part secured in fixture, on work positioner, or entering commands to retrieve and start preprogrammed cutting instructions
- Observe and listen to operating machines or equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions and to determine need for adjustments or repairs
- Trim, sand, and drill parts, and deburr parts when required
- Perform daily/weekly operator maintenance on machine equipment/tools (oil, clean, and inspection)
- Accurately execute PCS (Process Control Sheets) and provide feedback when revisions are needed
- Assist Engineering with the implementation, creation, and maintenance of PCS
- Document actions by completing production and quality logs as needed
- Accomplish organization goals by actively exploring opportunities to improve Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost. (SQDC)
- Train others by openly sharing information, knowledge, and expertise with the team
- Complete job assignments as directed by Manufacturing Manager
- Attend meetings, trainings, and participate in audits as directed
- Maintain safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations
- Comply with all company rules including company safety policy and all federal, state, local, and other safety regulations and practices
