Overview

Craven Community College's Volt Center is seeking an instructor for the Forest Worker credential program. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about forestry and committed to preparing students for successful careers in the industry. As an instructor, you will share your knowledge, demonstrate hands‑on techniques, and inspire students to develop the skills and confidence needed for entry‑level forestry employment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Instruct, guide, and support students in achieving both technical job skills and professional workplace skills related to forestry.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance.
  • Prepare, develop, and deliver course materials and activities with the direction and approval of the Program Coordinator.
  • Demonstrate and model safe forestry practices in both classroom and field settings.
  • Collaborate with program staff and industry partners to ensure training aligns with current workforce needs.
  • Requires flexible working hours, including day or evening classes, and possibly weekends.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong interest in forestry, outdoor work, and related industries.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with diverse student populations.
  • Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Office, email, PowerPoint).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Enthusiasm for workforce development and hands‑on training.
  • Ability to engage, motivate, and prepare students for entry‑level forestry employment.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage classroom instruction and student performance records.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in teaching methods and classroom management.
  • Comfortable instructing groups with varying skill levels and backgrounds.
  • Commitment to safety, teamwork, and fostering a positive learning environment.
