Maintenance Technician (00543)

City of New Bern is hiring a Maintenance Technician to perform minor and intermediate maintenance and repair of city building electrical systems, lighting, street lighting, heating and air conditioning systems, and city generators. The technician will also care for and clean city buildings as needed under regular supervision.

• Perform minor and intermediate troubleshooting on electrical circuits and lighting.
• Diagnose and repair intermediate problems with heating, air conditioning systems, and city generators.
• Clean and maintain buildings and facilities, performing grounds maintenance work.
• Conduct preventative maintenance and minor repairs on generators.
• Other illustrative tasks can be performed as needed.

• Considerable knowledge of internal combustion engine operation and ability to change minor parts.
• Semi-skilled electric work inside and outside, including heating and air conditioning repairs.
• General knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies, and equipment.
• Ability to understand oral and written directions, read, write, and keep accurate records.
• Physical ability to perform heavy manual work and work independently.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.

• Education and Experience:
  
  Graduation from high school plus considerable experience working on internal combustion engines, electrical circuits, and heating and air conditioning equipment.
• Special Requirements:
  Possession of an appropriate driver’s license valid in the state of North Carolina.
• Criminal Background Checks are required for the final internal and external candidate(s) applying.
