Electrician/ Electrician Installation, Installation Technician
Performs difficult skilled work assisting in the construction, maintenance and repair of electric transmission and distribution lines; does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of an Electric Line Crew Leader.
Salary Range:
Electric Line Worker 1st Class - $57,118 - $92,959
Electric Line Worker 2nd Class - $51,808 - $84,317
Electric Line Worker 3rd Class - $44,753 - $72,836
Electric Groundworker - $38,660 - $62,919
Installing, maintaining, and repairing power lines and related distribution system facilities.
(The following tasks are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.)
- Performs skilled poletop powerline work off of climbing hooks.
- Performs unsupervised installation, maintenance, and repair work on low voltage lines.
- Performs installation, maintenance, and repair work under direct supervision on high voltage lines.
- Installs and repairs underground cable, transformers, junctions, and switch gear.
- Operates line truck, auger, bucket truck, trenchers, and backhoes.
- Hangs and removes transformers and wires up secondaries; hangs capacitors.
- Installs, repairs, and replaces cross arms, leg supports, cable, insulator, and lightning arrestors.
- Installs underground and overhead services; assists in the installation of new and replacement poles.
- Replaces defective poles and installs and replaces area lights.
- Installs, repairs, and maintains streetlights.
- Installs meters; wires up meter backs.
- Assists in training new employees.
- Responds to emergency calls and assists with a variety of problems under adverse weather conditions.
- Works standby on rotation basis and during emergencies.
- Performs related tasks as required.
General knowledge of electric line construction, maintenance and repair and the safety hazards encountered; ability to set poles, string wire and do related work; ability to perform work in accordance with standard methods and procedures; ability to follow oral directions; ability to observe safety rules and regulations; strength to perform manual work and physical stamina to withstand working under adverse weather conditions;
ability to climb poles and work off climbing hooks; skill in the operation of a variety of line maintenance equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school.
Special RequirementsPossession of an appropriate commercial driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina.
Additional Requirements Electric Line Worker 1st ClassExtensive experience as an Electric Line Worker including considerable experience as the Electric Line Worker III level and Possession of Powerline Technician Level I, II and III, first aid and CPR certifications.
Electric Line Worker 2nd ClassConsiderable experience as an Electric Line Worker 3rd class or Power Line Technician II;
Possession of Powerline Technician Level I and II, first aid and CPR certifications.
Extensive experience as an Electric Groundworker or Power Line Technician I;
Possession of Powerline Technician Level I, first aid and CPR certifications.
Possession of first aid and CPR certifications.
