Summary
A substitute teacher is responsible for enabling each child to pursue his or her education as smoothly and completely as possible in the absence of his or her regular teacher. A substitute teacher carries out the lesson plans of the regular teacher and meets the duties of teaching as outlined in the policies of the school and the Archdiocese of San Antonio.

Position Responsibilities
- Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school.
- Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.
- Supports and adheres to the Religious Standards for Catholic School Employees and policies and procedures of the school and Archdiocese.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters.
- Provide instructional reinforcement for individual students or small groups.
- Supervise students in the cafeteria, schoolyard, specials, hallways, on field trips, and/or during before and after school programs.
- Attend to students' physical, personal, academic, and emotional needs.
- Perform other duties as directed by the classroom teacher and school administration.
- Use approved, corrective, and positive discipline procedures in dealing with inappropriate student conduct.
- Collaborate with school personnel to enhance the work environment and support academic programming.
- Adhere to safety training and protocols on a daily basis, taking precautionary measures to ensure safety and well‑being of self and others.
- Protect confidentiality of any information obtained in service with the organization.
- Adhere to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral Policy.
- Take a solution‑oriented approach and promote collaboration and commitment to the Mission and Vision.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Experience
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in substituting or teaching preferred.
License and Credentials
- Reliable transportation.
- Valid driver license.
- Valid vehicle insurance.
- Must pass archdiocesan Safe Environment Requirements and background screening.
Minimum Knowledge And Skills
- Attend to students' physical, personal, academic, and emotional needs.
- Provide instructional reinforcement for individual or small groups of students.
- General supervision of the class.
- Detail oriented, organized, self‑motivated, works well independently and on a team.
- Good written and verbal skills.
- Good critical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
