Purpose:
Assist teacher in preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements. Work under supervision of certified teacher.
Qualifications:Education/Certification:
- High school diploma or GED and
- 48.0 Semester hours of college coursework or
- Educational Aide Assessment Training
- Educational Aide Certificate issued by SBEC
Skills:
- Ability to work well with children
- Ability to communicate effectively

MajorResponsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Support
- Confers with and assists the teacher in preparing instructional materials, classroom displays, and arranging materials for the day’s activities.
- Operates and cares for classroom and office equipment used for instructional purposes, which may include the computer.
- Provides orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
- Assists in handling interruptions, emergencies and phone calls.
- Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests and abilities
- Administers tests that are required for certain identified students.
- Translates materials to Spanish when needed.
- Assists in grading written work done by students when requested by the teacher.
- Supervising students throughout the school day, both inside and outside the classroom.
- Works with individual students, small group or large group activities, to conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher.
- Participates in activities that contribute to job assignment.
- Participates in in-service training programs, faculty meetings, and special events, as needed.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
- Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully certified teachers.
- Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, and administrative regulations, and state and local board policy.
