Comal ISD’s mentoring program brings together caring, committed adults from all parts of our community to help students discover their strengths and succeed in school and life. Students participating in the program come from different backgrounds, have a variety of interests, and a wide range of ages. They may need help with academic achievement, character development, problem-solving skills, improving self-esteem, relationships with adults and peers, and school attendance.
The main goals as a mentor are to provide personal guidance, encouragement, and emotional support for your mentee.
- 18+ Years of Age
- A set schedule and access to transportation that allows them to make a firm commitment
- Great listeners
- Willingness to comply with all program policies and procedures
- Ability to maintain respectful confidentiality regarding their mentee
- Commitment to honor the authority and role of the child’s parent or caregiver
Comal ISD mentors meet once a week with their mentees for 30-45 minutes at school during a scheduled, agreed upon time for one academic year or more. Depending on the child’s age, a mentor might color with them, read to them, create a craft, play a game, or simply spend the time talking.
They Must Also Have- Completed the on-line Mentor Application and Background Check
- Attended a Mentor Training Session
- Read the Mentor Handbook prior to meeting the mentee
- All Comal ISD Campuses
