The New Braunfels Youth Collaborative’s (NBYC) mission is to inspire and uplift the next generation by providing dynamic and inclusive out-of-school time activities and resources to teens.
At the New Braunfels Youth Collaborative, we are building a bridge between school and home through the creation of the Mill Street Youth Center. A safe and supportive space, the Center will welcome all middle school and high school‑aged youth in New Braunfels during their out‑of‑school time (after school, weekends, school holidays, summer).
GENERAL PURPOSEReporting to the Executive Director, the Youth Wellness Director is a senior level position responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and operation of programming at the Mill Street Youth Center focusing on youth development and wellness. The Youth Wellness Director will ensure a safe, inclusive, and empowering environment for teens and will provide direct services, supervise program staff, collaborate with families and community partners, and guide the program’s strategic growth.
This position will work evenings and weekends dependent on program schedules.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Design, implement, and evaluate daily after school programming aligned with core goals:
Academic Success, Wellness, Enrichment Experiences, and Healthy Lifestyles, with a specific focus on mental health and wellness. - Hire, train and supervise program staff, interns, and volunteers to ensure high‑quality service delivery.
- Develop and maintain a high performing team through relevant and effective coaching, training, performance management, planning and staffing decisions.
- Ensure the physical and emotional safety of all youth participants.
- Possess a strong understanding of systems theory in social work practice. Utilize systems theory to assess program needs within the broader social context, recognizing the interplay of various systems affecting youth well‑being.
- Plan and manage resource allocations; assure efficient operations and cost‑effective practices; analyze and report operational, budget, and financial data; analyze future needs and forecast resource requirements.
- Provide individual and group support services, including crisis intervention, conflict resolution, and short‐term case management.
- Identify and address barriers to student success and wellness (e.g., mental health, family instability, school issues).
- Ensure organizational child safety policies are aligned with the latest evidence‑based practices and regulatory standards. Provide training initiatives for staff and serve as POC for concerns.
- Coordinate referrals to outside agencies for counseling, academic support, or basic needs assistance.
- Build positive relationships with parents/guardians through regular communication and outreach.
- Collaborate with schools, mental health professionals, and other youth‑serving organizations.
- Represent the program at community meetings and events.
- Participate in strategic planning, grant writing support, and fundraising efforts as needed.
- Responsible for distribution, collection and evaluation of program satisfaction surveys, participant feedback and program data. Draft recommendations for enhancements to programs, services, and facilities.
Education and Experience
Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW); AND three years’ experience managing youth/teen/recreation, after‑school, education or community programs; with three (3) years supervisory experience required. OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Licenses or Certifications- Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or higher (LCSW preferred depending on state)
- Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License.
- First Aid and CPR certifications are required and can be obtained within six months of hiring.
