Summary

The Network Administrator is responsible for designing, configuring, analyzing, monitoring, installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting network systems, which includes data, voice, video and wireless network services. This position ensures the secure, reliable, and efficient operation of all networks.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities Strategy & Planning
  • Plan and implement any improvement, modification, or replacement of network infrastructure components.
  • Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network configuration, network mapping, and standard operating procedures.
  • Develop methodologies for testing network performance and providing network performance statistics and reports.
  • Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation.
  • Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to keep up with industry developments in support of network planning and procurement efforts.
  • Develop and test disaster recovery plans and system backup and recovery procedures, to ensure continuity of operations as it relates to network functionality.
  • Collaborate with other IT team members to assess network capacity needs.
Operational Management
  • Design and deploy enterprise-grade LANs, WANs, and WLANs, including routers, switches, wireless access points, radios, and other hardware.
  • Implement and manage SD-WAN solutions to optimize connectivity, performance, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Integrate and maintain cellular routers and failover connectivity for remote or mobile locations.
  • Conduct network performance tuning, capacity analysis, and proactive monitoring using tools such as Solar Winds, PRTG or Auvik.
  • Document network architecture, configuration standards, and change control procedures.
  • Manage planning and maintenance of network cabling, including MDF and IDF closets.
  • Perform regular network security audits and implement network security best practices including firewall rules, intrusion detection/prevention, and secure remote access.
  • Perform on‑site analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of complex network problems for a variety of end‑users, and recommend and implement corrective solutions.
  • Coordinate with vendors during installations and hardware performance issues.
  • Provide tier‑3 technical support for complex network issues and mentor junior administrators/technicians.
  • Lead and mentor junior network staff, providing guidance and training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of best practices around management of network infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of Cisco routers and switches.
  • Experience with Layer 3 routing and Layer 2 switching.
  • Knowledge of Cradlepoint or other cellular WAN technologies.
  • Knowledge of Cambium or Mimosa radios is desirable.
  • Proficient with CLI (Command Line Interface) based management.
  • Self‑starter who can work under limited supervision.
  • Ability to communicate technical subjects to GBRA employees who have little or no background and/or experience in network systems.
  • Reasoning, analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and vendors involved with network design, implementation, and management.
Education / Certifications

Associate's Degree from an institution accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting agency. Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or related field from an accredited university, preferred. Cisco CCNA required; CCNP / CCIE, or equivalent vendor certifications preferred. Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.

5‑8+ years of progressive experience in network administration or engineering roles.
